In the second week of October the class finished their first ever experience with MAP testing. Generally, students took their time and gave good effort for all three tests (math, reading & language). Students have completed all fall testing and will not take any more standardized tests until January!
October also brought Dare Meunier from Second Chance Animal Center into our room for her first outreach lesson of the year. Dare will visit with a lesson about pet care and safety once a month until May. Many of her visits will feature an animal guest!
The class will also welcome Dottie Sandquist late this month and early in November as we collaborate on a gardening project at the Old First Church. Students will help plant bulbs for a spring garden at the church. Any parents with green thumbs should contact Mr. Lane if you'd like to help out.
Monument continues their wonderful Harvest Festival tradition on Thursday evening, October 26th starting around 5PM. Students and Monument families can enjoy games, activities and food and students can give their Halloween costume an early debut. The event culminates with Trunk or Treat (basically, trick or treating from car to car instead of house to house). If you'd like to participate in Trunk or Treat, please contact the office (we'll provide EVERYTHING you need!).
Along with a new assignment notebook, this week second graders were give Mr. Lane's letter to parents about homework routines and expectations. Please be sure to read the letter carefully and check out your child's homework sheet for the week. Parents with questions about homework are encouraged to contact Mr. Lane.
In other important classroom news, please check student folders this weekend for an important update regarding food safety and health. You can also click here to read the notice.
Thanks to parents that were able to attend the open house. If you missed it, just send me and email if you'd like to come in for a meeting at any time.
Tuesday: Social Skills & Music
Please do your best to be aware of the schedule so your child is prepared that day. Sneakers on PE days are a must! Art class occasionally can get messy, so don't wear your best clothes on Wednesday. And always remember to return library books on Friday.
